What Google Actually Announced

On July 29, 2026, Google’s official Gemini account posted a short update: starting that day, anyone can create ten videos in Gemini at no cost, through 11:59 PM Pacific Time on August 4, 2026. The instructions are as simple as the offer itself. Open the tools menu inside Gemini, tap Create video, and start typing.1

The videos come from Gemini Omni, the video generation model Google introduced at I/O 2026 back in May. Omni is built to take text, images, and even existing video clips as input, then produce a new video grounded in whatever you fed it. Ask for a scene from scratch, or upload a photo and describe what should happen next.2

Here is the part worth sitting with for a second. This feature normally lives behind a paywall. Since May, Gemini Omni has rolled out to Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers inside the Gemini app and Google Flow.3 The one exception has been YouTube Shorts and YouTube Create, where a lighter version has been free to everyone all along.4 This week, for the first time, the full Gemini app experience opens up too, and you do not need to hand over a card number to try it.

How Many Videos Do You Actually Get

Google’s own post keeps this simple: ten videos, free, until the deadline. It does not spell out whether that resets every day or whether it is a flat ten for the entire week, and Google has not published a clarifying statement beyond the original post.1 A few tech blogs covering the announcement read it as a daily allowance, which would be a far bigger deal than a one-time pool of ten.5

The honest answer is that we do not know for certain, and the smartest move is to check your own account rather than trust anyone’s interpretation, including ours. Open Gemini, generate a video, and see whether the tool still lets you make another one tomorrow. Either way, ten free videos is ten more than the free plan normally gives you, so there is no real downside to just going and using them.

How To Create Your Free Videos, Step By Step

Open Gemini. Go to gemini.google.com on your computer, or open the Gemini app on your phone. Sign in with the Google account you want to use. You need to be signed in and 18 or older to generate video.6
Find Create video. On desktop, look at the bottom of the text box for the Add Files option and select Create video. On Android and iOS, tap the menu icon at the top left and choose Videos.6
Write your prompt. Describe the scene the way you would explain it to a friend. Say who or what is in it, what they are doing, the setting, and the mood. Specific beats vague. “A golden retriever puppy chasing bubbles on a sunlit porch, slow motion” will get you a far better result than “a cute dog video.”
Add a reference if you have one. You can upload up to five images or one existing video to guide the output. This is useful if you already have a photo you want brought to life, or a clip you want extended or edited.6
Submit and wait. Generation usually takes a few minutes. You cannot use that same chat while the video renders, but you can open a new conversation and come back later to check on it.6
Refine through conversation. Once your video appears, you do not have to start over to change it. Just tell Gemini what to adjust, a different camera angle, a change in lighting, a new line of dialogue, and it edits the existing clip rather than generating a fresh one from scratch. This conversational editing is the single biggest upgrade Omni brings over older video tools.2
Save it before the week ends. Download anything you want to keep. Once the promotion closes on August 4th, free-tier access to this tool goes away, and you will need Google AI Plus, Pro, or Ultra to keep creating video inside Gemini.3

What Gemini Omni Can Actually Do

A few capabilities are worth knowing before you burn through your ten videos on the first idea that comes to mind.

Multi-turn editing. Keep talking to refine a video across several messages in the same chat, instead of rewriting one giant prompt and hoping for the best.7
